The College of Micronesia-FSM is a learner-centered institution of higher education that is committed to the success of the Federated States of Micronesia by providing academic, career and technical educational programs characterized by continuous improvement and best practices.
Core Values:
Teaching 12 to 15 contact hours of English courses per week with one to four preparations in the Languages and Literature Division. Courses to be taught will include a combination of English composition, English specialty courses such as drama, poetry, literature and speech communication courses. May include tutoring in the writing center and/or coordinating of assessment activities for the Liberal Arts program. Must teach classes in accordance with the goals and objectives of the courses as described in the course outlines and maintain accurate records of student attendance and student learning outcomes/grades, in accordance with COM-FSM regulations. Submission of records to Chairperson at the end of the semester/session and holding at least 5 office hours per week during the semester is required. Participating in one standing committee of the college each semester; may be asked to participate in adhoc committees. Advising students and participating in special College functions such as graduation and convocations. Participation in Division activities: this may include meetings, curriculum development and developing procedures for improving current classes and/or participating in assessment activities at the division and institutional level. Participating in professional development. Attending to additional needs of the College or the community as agreed upon by the faculty member in consultation with their supervisor.
Master’s Degree in English, TESOL, Linguistics or Speech communication from a US accredited institution with a specialty in literacy, composition/Rhetoric or Reading or MFA with a writing or performance emphasis. Foreign credentials must be equated to US standards using World Education Services at http://www.wes.org. Applicant must have two years of full-time teaching at the post-secondary level and experience with establishment and assessment of student learning outcomes. Two years experience teaching college level with ESL students and two years experience in living overseas from the applicant homeland is preferred. Ability to give evidence of exemplary teaching ability, initiative, interpersonal skills, and cultural sensitivity are essential.
