Duties and Responsibilities:

The College of Micronesia-FSM, an institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, is seeking a visionary, dynamic, and inspirational leader who will lead the Instructional Department. The vice president for instructional affairs (VPIA) is the chief academic officer of the college and reports directly to the president. The VPIA with assistance of the dean of academic programs, director of career and technical education, campus deans/directors, and the director of learning resources, provides leadership and oversight for the development, delivery, and quality of all academic, career and technical education programs offered at the college. The VPIA advises the president on all issues relating to curriculum and ensures that all instructional programs and instructional related services provided at any site at the college support the mission, values and goals of the college. The instructional department under the leadership of the VPIA oversees the delivery of quality learner centered instruction based on student learning outcomes, taught by qualified and highly effective instructors who are supported with current and adequate instructional resources and who promote student centered learning and excellence. The VPIA oversees academic strategic planning to meet the needs of students, the community, and the college. The VPIA provides leadership and quality assurance in these essential functional areas of the department:

  5. Administration
  6. Continuous Improvement

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree required in relevant fields from US an accredited college. Foreign credentials must be equated to US standards using World Education Services at http://www.wes.org Five years of progressively more responsible administrative experience in a higher education environment. Demonstrated leadership and management skills including effective communication skills and significant budgetary responsibility. Familiarity with the role of education in a developing country. Demonstrated commitment to student success, and experience in building strong student relationships. Desirable Skills and Knowledge: Senior-level administrative experience with responsibility for academic, vocational, and basic education programs. Experienced in team leadership. Five to eight years’ teaching experience in higher education. Experience with program review processes that leads to institutional assessment, curricular relevance, and continuous improvement. The ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement a distance education delivery system. Experience in strategic planning and budgeting. Skilled in establishing and maintain effective partnerships with agencies, the community, industry, and education institutions. Commitment to innovation in education programs. Demonstrated community involvement. Knowledge of Micronesian Culture and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and willingness to live in a rural area.
