Duties:

Assist students who have not declared a major field of study in mapping out a most appropriate educational program. Conduct student orientation to the college counseling services and other student services programs. Assist in the areas of registration, student withdrawal from classes and/or school, and graduation exercises. Arrange for peer counseling and tutoring sessions on a regular basis. Arrange and conduct workshops on career selection and resume preparation. Help identify colleges/universities and assist students in completing applications for admission, scholarship or grant when students are ready to transfer. Develop and implements new and innovative programs to ensure student success and retention. Provide personal and academic counseling involving an analysis of the student’s current course of study and class problems. Keep complete up to date record of all student transfers into and out of COM-FSM. Identify and compile a list of resource problems and drug/alcohol abuse problems. Guide and assist students who are referred from instructors due to having difficulty in their studies. Establish and maintain relationships with campus academic advisors, special program’s counselors, and other off-campus school’s counselors. Assist in administering the college entrance test to high school seniors. Assist in identifying prospective students and develop/implement a strategy for recruiting these students. Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in either in Guidance and Counseling, psychology or related field from a US accredited college and four year experience in providing educational services, counseling, or other assistance to the students or related groups. Foreign credentials must be equated to US standards using World Education Services at http://www.wes.org. Knowledge of college programs/organization, and their purposes and organization, policies and regulations related to the filed of assignment; techniques and procedures used in academic and personal counseling; principles and practices of modern office management. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff and community; learn the specific techniques needed to fulfill student services activities program assigned; plan, schedule, evaluate and review work activities and planned programs; analyze effectiveness of program and make appropriate modifications within scope and assigned responsibility; work with a diverse faculty, staff and students; work as part of a team in accomplishing tasks and functions. Experience with establishment and assessment of student learning outcomes.
