Duties:
Assist students who have not declared a field of study, mapping out the most appropriate educational program. Conduct student orientation for the college counseling services and other student services programs. Assist in the area of registration, graduation exercises, and student withdrawal from classes and/or school. Arrange and conduct workshops on career selection, resume and interview preparation. Help identify college and universities for students, assist with the college, scholarship, and grant application process for continued and transferring students. Develop and implement new relevant programs to ensure student success and retention. Provide personal, academic, and alcohol counseling. Assist in the Administration of the COMET, and recruitment of new students. Maintain and keep up to date student records. Serve on committees and perform other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from a US accredited college or University in counseling, education or related fields. Two years of experience in providing educational services, counseling, or assistance to students or related group. Ability to: follow through and work independently, establish and maintain effective working relationship with students, faculty and staff; learn specific techniques needed to operate effectively and with empathy with youths; communicate effectively in English both orally and writing; establish environment Conductive to personal and academic growth of students. Demonstrate professional oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of: successful advising/counseling methods and Techniques used in secondary and/or post secondary education; college programs and organizations, their purposes and organizations, policies and regulations related to the field of assignment, techniques and procedures used in academic, alcohol and personal counseling.
