The Distance Learning Coordinator reports directly the VPIA and assists the college to identify distance learning needs, opportunities and feasibility, plan and manage distance learning and to train/guide faculty to develop and conduct  distance learning courses to students across the college’s six campus sites. The position is a 12-month faculty position and the coordinator is expected to teach one course per regular semester.  The coordinator is to consult and collaborate with the Director of Career and Technical Education, Vice President for Cooperative Research, and Extension and the instructional coordinators and faculty at all campuses.

Duties:

The duties of the DL coordinator include the following: Develop operational procedures and manual for facilitating and managing distance learning within the college; Plan and conduct faculty and facilitator training to include course and materials design, course management software; and  use of instructional technology equipment. Direct and supervise part time technical assistants; assist the administration to identify the needs, capacity, and direction for distance learning for the college; assist in the development and refinement of strategic plans for distance learning; assist faculty to prepare courses and materials for distance learning activities; Teach at least one course section through distance learning each regular semester; Liaison, collaborate and coordinate with other institutions in offering distance learning opportunities with COM-FSM. The coordinator is expected to serve as a member of the curriculum, library, and technology advisory committees and may be asked to serve on relevant adhoc committees from time to time as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree & Teaching: Master’s in Educational/Instructional Technology with two years of college and/or adult education full time teaching experience for placement at the salary above. However, candidates with master’s degrees in other education areas or other content/subject area fields with relevant training and experiences in distance learning education are encouraged to apply for consideration.  FSM citizens holding bachelor’s degree in the areas above who have related skills and experience are highly encouraged to apply for consideration with adjusted salary placement to match the qualifications.  

Skills/Knowledge: Knowledge of distance learning and course design principals. Familiarity and experience with one or more distance learning course design and management software (Blackboard, WEbCT, Moodle,) and web page design tools. Familiar with accreditation standards for junior colleges and preferably knowledge of standards and guidelines for delivering quality distance learning courses and programs. Familiar with student learning outcomes assessment and program evaluation.

Work Experience: Demonstrated experience participating in 2 or more distance learning courses.  At least 3 years teaching as a student preferably at the post secondary level. Demonstrate background and experience in redesigning an existing course or creating a course for distance learning delivery. Experience in planning and conducting workshops and training for adults/staff development. Demonstrated effective communications skills, excellent organizational skills, and effective team management skills is desirable. Ability and willingness to guide and mentor subordinate staff to build capacity within the college.
