COMET

General Information about the COMET

COMET is the College of Micronesia Entrance Test. It is a three-part test given to high school seniors, high school graduates, and GED graduates who want to enroll at COM-FSM and who have not attended college previously.

The purpose of the test is to assist the college in making decisions about admitting students to the college. The college can find out how well prepared and "college ready" prospective students are in reading, writing, and mathematics.

The test is also used to place students who are admitted into an appropriate academic degree program, vocational or technical certificate program, and developmental education courses.

General information about the parts of the test

The COMET has three sections; essay, math, and reading comprehension.  In the essay section, the student is asked to write an essay of at least 250 words.  It should include an introduction, body, and conclusion.

The math section has 40 multiple choice questions.  It tests basic math skills, algebra, geometry, and problem solving skills.

The reading comprehension section is made up of two tests. First is a set of 45 vocabulary test items.  Here you match the word with the correct definition. The second test is a reading test with 11 short reading passages.  You read the passage, then answer the multiple choice questions about that reading.
