1 I suggest we look for volunteer coordinators/editors for individual
1 languages. These people will scan contributions of translation files
1 for various programs, for their own languages, and will ensure high and
1 uniform standards of diction.

1 From my current experience with other people in these days, those who
1 provide localizations are very enthusiastic about the process, and are
1 more interested in the localization process than in the program they
1 localize, and want to do many programs, not just one. This seems to
1 confirm that having a coordinator/editor for each language is a good
1 idea.

1 We need to choose someone who is good at writing clear and concise
1 prose in the language in question. That is hard—we can’t check it
1 ourselves. So we need to ask a few people to judge each others’ writing
1 and select the one who is best.

1 I announce my prerelease to a few dozen people, and you would not
1 believe all the discussions it generated already. I shudder to think
1 what will happen when this will be launched, for true, officially, world
1 wide. Who am I to arbitrate between two Czekolsovak users contradicting
1 each other, for example?

1 I assume that your German is not much better than my French so that I
1 would not be able to judge about these formulations. What I would
1 suggest is that for each language there is a group for people who
1 maintain the PO files and judge about changes. I suspect there will be
1 cultural differences between how such groups of people will behave.
1 Some will have relaxed ways, reach consensus easily, and have anyone of
1 the group relate to the maintainers, while others will fight to death,
1 organize heavy administrations up to national standards, and use strict
1 channels.

1 The German team is putting out a good example. Right now, they are
1 maybe half a dozen people revising translations of each other and
1 discussing the linguistic issues. I do not even have all the names.
1 Ulrich Drepper is taking care of coordinating the German team. He
1 subscribed to all my pretest lists, so I do not even have to warn him
1 specifically of incoming releases.

1 I’m sure, that is a good idea to get teams for each language working
1 on translations. That will make the translations better and more
1 consistent.
