1 6 Creating a New PO File

1 When starting a new translation, the translator creates a file called
1 ‘LANG.po’, as a copy of the ‘PACKAGE.pot’ template file with
1 modifications in the initial comments (at the beginning of the file) and
1 in the header entry (the first entry, near the beginning of the file).

1 The easiest way to do so is by use of the ‘msginit’ program. For
1 example:

1 $ cd PACKAGE-VERSION
1 $ cd po
1 $ msginit
1
1 The alternative way is to do the copy and modifications by hand. To
1 do so, the translator copies ‘PACKAGE.pot’ to ‘LANG.po’. Then she
1 modifies the initial comments and the header entry of this file.
