1 The file name databases used by 'locate' contain lists of files that
1 were in particular directory trees when the databases were last updated.
1 The file name of the default database is determined when 'locate' and
1 'updatedb' are configured and installed.  The frequency with which the
1 databases are updated and the directories for which they contain entries
1 depend on how often 'updatedb' is run, and with which arguments.

1    You can obtain some statistics about the databases by using 'locate
1 --statistics'.
